What is Boudoir?

The word “Boudoir” is French, and is a woman’s private sitting room but can also refer to a woman’s private bedroom.

Now Boudoir Photography would typically be seen as photographing women in a bedroom. This idea is an oversimplification because boudoir photography is much more than just that.

I believe that boudoir photography is “Beautiful photographs that empower and instill a deep love of oneself.”

Who is Boudoir for?

Some people may do a boudoir shoot as a gift for their spouse or significant other. While your spouse would love a collection of beautiful and sexy images of you as a wedding, birthday, or anniversary gift, I’d argue that a boudoir shoot is an even better gift when it’s for yourself.

Everyone you show your boudoir photos to will appreciate them for how great they look. Still, they will not feel that sense of love and pride that only you will when seeing yourself looking stunning and glamorous like you never thought possible.

For me, boudoir does not need to be in a bedroom; it does not have to be done nude; it just needs to make you feel beautiful.

Can I afford this?

Boudoir photography is not going to be as cheap as your kid’s school photos, but you should also not want it to be cheap.

The cost is in line with other professional photography services like family portraits or wedding photography. We make the cost of entry as affordable as possible. Our sessions start at $1,500 and include professional hair and makeup styling, a full-day photoshoot dedicated just to you, and a photo reveal session.

During your photo reveal session, you will be able to purchase your fine art portraits.

Customers pay anywhere from $1,500 - $10,000+ for their fine art prints, but the average customer will spend around $5,500.

What if I get nervous?

Everyone gets a little nervous, but that feeling disappears quickly, normally within a few minutes.

During the shoot, there will be a hair and makeup artist on set. And if you wish, you are welcome to bring someone along with you for extra support during your session.

The entire experience is a lot of fun and often silly. Most women have such a good time that they want to do it again.

Should I Lose Weight First?

Every woman asks this, and it’s the most common question that I hear.

The truth is you are beautiful just the way you are right now reading this.

It’s my job as a professional photographer to flatter women of all shapes and sizes using all my tools.

Professional hair and makeup styling along with lighting, posing, and wardrobe will all lead to the perfect photo, not your weight.

How should I pose?

98% of the women that I photograph are ordinary people who have never done modeling before, and that’s completely fine.

It is my job to coach you through simple actions and poses to capture that perfect moment.

I won’t ask you to do anything that I wouldn’t do, and I will even show you how to do some poses myself, this tends to lead to lots of laughs and keeps the spirit of the photoshoot light.

Any images that we don’t love will not be used, so there is no need to worry.

Will you retouch my photos?

Every photo does get some form of retouching.

However, I will not alter your body shape, and I won’t Photoshop you into a different person.

What I will do is remove any distractions, such as pimples, blemishes, and any markings or scars that you do not want in your images.

Scars, birthmarks, or markings on your body that you want to keep in the photos or wish to showcase during your shoot, will be discussed during the initial consultation.

Will I have to pose nude?

No, you do not have to be nude during your Boudoir session unless you want to.

There are also many ways to imply nudity while still keeping your clothes on.

I never push my clients beyond their boundaries, and your comfort is my number one concern.

Boudoir is a liberating and fun experience. You will never be required to do anything that you genuinely do not want to do.

These are only the top 8 questions that we get asked. There are normally a whole lot more and you might even be thinking of some right now. If you do have any questions that you would like to have answered feel free to shoot me an email and I will gladly answer your questions for you.
