Is Boudoir a Form of Self Care?

Happy February everyone! This is the month of love and we wanted to start it off by taking a look at self-love, and answer the question, Is Boudoir a form of self-care?

But before we can jump in an answer whether or not a Boudoir photoshoot is a form of self-care, we have to first answer the question...

What is self-care?

Self-care can be exhibited in many ways. Each person has their own ritual. Self-care can include:

  • Exercising.

  • Eating well.

  • Sleeping 8 hours a night.

  • Setting boundaries with people.

  • Getting your hair and makeup done.

  • Taking time to read a book.

It can even mean sitting in front of your television and binging a Netflix series. In its essence, self-care is anything that makes someone feel better physically and mentally.

Self-care may be manifested in different ways, but the outcome should be the same no matter the activity. When a person practices self-care, they should walk away from whatever they are participating in, feeling better than they were. Self-care is essential to every individual. This is very important to remember.

Some might feel that practicing self-care is being self-indulgent, and that is not the case. Others think that there is not enough time in the day to practice self-care. These are both common misconceptions, especially amongst women.

Women have it ingrained in their psyche to care for everyone else: their children, their partner, their friends, their pets. When one person is caring for everyone else around them, it can seem that there is no time at the end of the day because they are truly exhausted.

An important thing to remember is that if we don’t take care of ourselves properly, we cannot care for others. If we are well-rested and have less stress, we are better equipped to take care of those in our lives.

Self-care has other significant benefits. “When self-care is regularly practiced, the benefits are broad and have even been linked to positive health outcomes such as reduced stress, improved immune system, increased productivity, and higher self-esteem,” says Brighid Courtney of Boston, a client leader at the wellness technology company Wellable and a faculty member at the Wellness Council of America (WELCOA).

With benefits such as those, self-care does not seem self-indulgent. It seems necessary.

What is boudoir photography, and can it be seen as self-care?

We describe boudoir photography as “Beautiful photographs that empower and instill a deep love of oneself.”

When practicing self-care, an individual should also feel empowered and feel a deep love of oneself.

Boudoir photography is less about scantily clad women in photographs; it is about the experience. The experience should feel luxuriant because you deserve it. You must remember, though, having a luxuriant experience does not make it self-indulgent!

Women deserve to carve time out for themselves. Women deserve to feel as if they are the center of attention and that their needs will be met without asking for it. Women should allow themselves to feel relaxed, pampered, beautiful, and sexy.

Many women are reluctant to experience boudoir. As Miss M., a client of ours, states,

“I won a shoot with Greg, and I almost gave my prize away because I’m so uncomfortable in my own skin. Instead, after my consultation with Greg, I decided to go for it. He made me feel so comfortable and became determined to conquer this issue together. Greg is a professional and a true artist. His team is also superb. The shoot was so much fun, and I had no idea just how natural it would feel. Greg took the time to really get to know me, including my battles with chronic illness (which we even worked into the shoot in a beautiful, meaningful way). I’m so proud of this and thankful to him for this opportunity to begin to see myself in a new light. I value Greg as an artist and now as a friend. Our work may not even be finished yet!”.

Many other women feel the same way that Miss M. felt. A talented boudoir photographer will have the ability to make you feel completely at ease and help you enjoy yourself at the same time. A truly wonderful boudoir experience should have you walking away feeling relaxed, confident, and like you can take on the world.

Miss E. speaks of how she felt after her photoshoot with us. She said,

“This experience has been life-changing and has given me so much confidence!”.

Now to answer the main question of this article: Yes. Boudoir can absolutely be viewed as a self-care experience.

You are setting time aside for yourself to relax, be pampered, and walk away feeling gorgeous and confident. After their photoshoots, most women admit that they waited too long to book a session. Do yourself a favor. Take some time out for yourself to practice your own self-care, and treat yourself to a Boudoir Experience with us that you will never forget.

We would love the opportunity to show you just how amazing and life-changing this experience can be and if you let us, we will show you the beauty that we see in you.
